When life is tough

Let’s be honest, sometimes it feels like life is too hard to handle. Whether it is financial issues, family problems, health issues, relationships, losing a loved one, career problems, or anything else you can imagine, life always seems to pile up on us.

When life gets tough, sometimes we struggle to blindly trust God. But we cannot lose hope, because will never leave us or forsake us. “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:17-18.

Currently, you may feel like you have been given the short stick in life, and that God has decided to pick on you. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance” James 1:2-3.

When God tests us in life, he wants us to draw closer to him and trust him. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” Isaiah 43:2.

But we must remember when we feel like we are drowning in troubles is that God will not give us more than we can bear, and he will never keep you in your current state. “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” 1 Corinthians 10:13.

The most important thing to do when life is tough is to draw closer to God and lean on him. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:29-31.

Lastly, do not worry. “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” Luke 12: 25-26.

As for right now, it is hard to see the bigger picture of this trial in our lives. God is having you go through this for a reason. I often tell friends that their struggle will make a powerful testimony one day, and will touch someone’s life.

I know this post was verse heavy, but the Bible just has so much on trusting God even when life seems hopeless and that there is no escape from your current situation. Find comfort in the fact that God will never abandon his children. Below are some more verses to bring comfort.
