“Set Me Free” – Casting Crowns

I know it seems like my blog is turning into a Casting Crowns playlist, with this being the third song by them I have recommended. But their songs have such great lyrics because they are written for Christians about issues we deal with.

This song “Set Me Free” has such strong lyrics talking about how we need God to free us from the chains of sin, and how darkness cannot hide from him.

My favorite part of the song is:

“Morning breaks another day

All alone with my demons I am
Who is this man that comes my way?

Temptation

Satan sucks. There is no other way to put it. He is a deceiving creature who manages to warp things that are created by God and make them bad.

Satan loves to tempt us, he even tempted Jesus! But after all the attempts Satan made, Christ said “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only'” Matthew 4:10.

All our lives we will be tempted by Satan, so this entry doesn’t just apply to college students. “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted” Hebrews 2:18.

“Safe” – Phil Wickham

This is such an uplifting song with great lyrics that really explains what my last post was about. Even when you are afraid, you are not alone, and God will keep you safe in His arms.

So I leave you with the awesome lyrics to take away from it what you need. “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” Romans 8:26.

Fears and the power of prayer

Tonight with some people from InterVarsity, we watched a documentary called “An Unconventional War”. It was about Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army.

Recently, the whole Kony 2012 video appeared on the internet, and for a few days, that was all anyone talked about. People were buying kits, reblogging statistics, and trying to make sure everyone knew about this terror in Uganda.

The documentary was made in 2006, and followed girls who had been abducted, and what the power of prayer has done over the years. After we finished watching, some of us were frightened because of the dark witchcraft Joseph Kony does. Just so people are aware, his war is not political, it is spiritual. Satan and demons literally speak through him.

“If We Are The Body”- Casting Crowns

This song isn’t completely about my last post, but it talks about how if we say we are the body of Christ, then we should act like it. The chorus goes:

“But if we are the body
Why aren’t His arms reaching?
Why aren’t His hands healing?
Why aren’t His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren’t His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way.”

Importance of having Christian mentors and church family

I was sitting here thinking of what to write about. I had a list full of topics, but none of them were speaking to me. I was about to just give up and not write, but then I thought about what happened at my church today.

Our youth pastor and his wife, Brian and Jacqueline Zdrojowy, will be leaving in August to plant a new church, and there were lots of tears and fellowship at church today. And I just cried because I hate being away from my church family. Here at school I have my InterVarsity family, but my church family is just home to me.

Interview with Jordan Willet

Imagine graduating high school at age 15, joining a band, and going on tour across the country.

That is exactly what Jordan Willet, bass player for the popular Christian rock band Willet did. The band Willet was formed in early 2005 by brothers Jeremy and Justin Willet, and in May 2006 Jordan was invited to join.

Since then, Willet has produced six albums, and they tour the country 270 days out of the year. The other 95 days are spent writing new material and running their non-profit organization, The Hunger Strike.

This song is catchy and the lyrics go right along with my last post about going to God when you are stressed or anxious.

Spring break is just around the corner, which of course means more stress for us. The week of tests, assignments, and paperwork has begun.

It is easy to feel very overwhelmed during midterm week, but God is here to give you rest! “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28.

There is no avoiding it, you will grow weary from time to time. College students often take on multiple activities, and even though it looks like some people can balance everything and never get tired, they struggle as well.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength” Isaish 40:29-31.
